Nestled in Kara’s hometown in the western suburb of Mound, Minnesota, the Eli Hart Memorial Playground is open for families to enjoy at Surfside Park.
A Brief History
Eli Hart Memorial Playground was created for and honors the memory of a young local hero, Eli Hart. The greater Surfside Park also has picnic tables, grills, volleyball, a sandy beach for swimming, and a greenspace.
Family-Friendly Amenities
Eli Hart Memorial Playground is designed with children in mind. The park's playground features a variety of play structures that cater to different age groups, and also for children with disabilities. Eli had a genetic disorder, and that’s why they added features at the playground like a merry-go-round for people in wheelchairs and a cocoon for people who struggle with overstimulation. All are welcome at Eli Hart Memorial Playground.
For those who enjoy picnicking, the park offers several picnic tables and a shelter that can be rented, providing an ideal setting for a leisurely lunch or a fun-filled gathering with friends and family. The open green spaces are perfect for frisbee, soccer, or simply lounging on a blanket with a good book.
Recreational Activities
For those who enjoy fishing, jet-skiing, or boating, the park's proximity to Lake Minnetonka offers easy access to the water.
Community Events and Programs
Eli Hart Memorial Playground is more than just a place to enjoy the great outdoors; it's also a hub for community events and programs. Throughout the year, the park hosts a variety of events, from outdoor concerts and movie nights to fitness classes and the annual Spirit of the Lakes Festival, this year from July 18-20, 2024. These events foster a sense of community and provide opportunities for residents to come together and celebrate the beauty of their surroundings.
